City of Phoenix - AARP Experience Corps Phoenix - The City of Phoenix, in partnership with the AARP Foundation is recruiting volunteers 50 years and above to support a tutoring program designed to improve reading fluency skills for Phoenix elementary school students. Volunteer Literacy Tutors meet weekly with their assigned students within nine partnering Phoenix school districts. If you enjoy working and inspiring our youth - this opportunity is for you!

When does the program start? Schools launch by September. Training is provided for new and existing tutors through-out the year. We will begin as soon as we receive data from our schools. We are seeking tutors for the 19-20 academic school year.

What is the commitment? Tutors commit to volunteer for a school year, twice a week, for a total of 5 hours a week. All tutors are required to attend training prior to their start date.

          WELCOME TO SUNRIDGE ELEMENTARY!

            A STEM Focused School

At Sunridge Elementary, we will incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math to prepare all students to achieve academic and social success. Sunridge students engage daily in STEM thematic units of study focusing on problem solving through the engineering design process.

During the science portion of the units, students use the scientific method to perform experiments to think and act like scientists.  Technology is used across our curriculum to provide students with multiple modalities of instructional delivery.   As engineers our students utilize the engineering design process to solve real world problems throughout our thematic units.  Students will engage in a scientifically researched based math curriculum to work towards proficiency with the AZ College and Career Readiness Standards.

At Sunridge Elementary we integrate STEM in everything we do. Not only do we provide our students with opportunities to develop their creativity through increased exposure to STEM, we infuse STEM into all core subjects.
