Sunridge Programs
At Sunridge, our teachers teach the district-adopted curriculum along with research-based, engaging, and relevant supplemental materials, and online instructional programs. Every core subject will enhance academics, student outcomes, and social-emotional development.
Core Academics
Math: At Sunridge, we teach the Into Math curriculum from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It is a comprehensive program that encourages growth in mathematical thinking and practice. It uses real-world activities and problems to make lessons accessible to all learners while increasing academic achievement.
Science and Social Studies: At Sunridge, we teach the McGraw Hill Inspire Science curriculum, which uses scaffolded inquiry activities. We use McGraw Hill Impact Social Studies curriculum, which teaches lessons with Inquiry Journals and Research Companions. The lessons are differentiated to be accessible for all learners, have hands-on labs, and make cross-curricular connections that help increase science concepts, social studies concepts and reading skills.
Specials: Music, art, physical education, technology, and library make learning fun as students express themselves physically and creatively. Students receive 40 minutes of music, physical education, library, technology, and art each week.
Reading: At Sunridge, our reading curriculum is Wonders from McGraw-Hill. Wonders has research-based literature and informational text in both print and digital formats. It has resources for all learners, including English Language Learners and those who need interventions. There are also social-emotional skills built into the lessons.
Extracurricular After-School Activities
Extended Day Learning: More information to come about our exciting Nita M. Lowey 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant.
Kids at Hope
At Sunridge Elementary, we have embraced and adopted the Kids at Hope belief system:
- We believe that all children are capable of success, no exceptions! Not some children, not most children, but all children. We focus on what children can do and what they are capable of.
- We connect with all children in a meaningful, sustainable way. Children succeed when they have meaningful and sustainable relationships with caring adults. We refer to these relationships as the Four ACES: Ace of Hearts—anchor parent; Ace of Clubs—other caring adult; Ace of Spades—high expectations; Ace of Diamonds—opportunities to succeed.
You are the Ace of Hearts for your child. You are the only one who can give your child this important Ace. The staff at Sunridge Elementary strives to intentionally connect with students and hand out the other three Aces on a daily basis. Your child can also receive these Aces from others in your family, in your neighborhood, and in the community. - We time travel. We are committed to teaching our students how to visualize and verbalize their future in the Four Destinations listed below. We assist and encourage students in creating multiple pathways to reach those dreams and goals.
